How I Chose My Blog Name + Tips for Choosing Yours

Are you looking to start a blog but struggling to choose a name?

I went through the same process—brainstorming for weeks, trying to find something unique, but everything sounded either too 'cringe' or too 'mainstream'. You want your blog name to be memorable, not only for others but also for yourself.

Even though blogging can be a job, it’s essentially a public journal where I share my thoughts, feelings, and experiences. That’s why my blog name needed to feel personal. One night, while talking with my partner about our day, I said something, and that "something" became the name of my blog.

Where did the name come from?

Important to note: both my partner Isaac and I are from a region in southern England called Hampshire.

One day, Isaac and I found a hike on Google Maps in Krabi, Thailand. We decided to go, but it turned out to be much harder than we expected. With only Crocs and one bottle of water, we managed to trek up the mountain and reach the viewpoint. The trail was quiet, and we only passed a few other groups along the way.

At the top, we stood admiring the view when another couple joined us. We struck up a conversation, and the man mentioned he was from Hampshire. Remember, that’s where Isaac and I are from!

I couldn’t believe it—I was standing at the top of a mountain in Thailand, halfway across the world, and met someone from my little area in England. What are the chances?

But this wasn’t the last time I saw him...

A few days later, it was time for us to leave Krabi. As we arrived at the coach station, guess who was sitting there? The same man! While it wasn’t as strange as seeing him on top of the mountain, what are the odds we’d leave Krabi on the same day, at the same time, and take the same coach?

That night, as Isaac and I talked about it, I said, "It really is a little big world." And that’s when it hit me—that’s what I should name my blog! The next day, I bought the domain, and my blogging journey began.

If you're really stuck, try using AI to generate blog name ideas. Just make sure you provide useful prompts that relate to your blog’s focus, like travel or your name.

Make it easy to say

When you think of a name, ensure it’s easy to pronounce and avoid made-up or overly complicated words.

Check domain availability

As soon as you think of a name, check if the domain is available. If it is, buy it immediately. You don’t want to lose it after spending so much time deciding. If it’s not available, don’t worry—just move on to the next idea.
